Due to the global impact of COVID-19, many homeowners today are extremely cautious of the safety of their families from viruses. One of the popular ways most people across the globe cleanse the air around them is through air purifiers.

Two of the most prominent brands today are the Airdoctor 3000 and Shark 3-in-1 Max air purifiers. Both brands have their strengths and weaknesses, but which of them is the best over the other?

Airdoctor 3000 boasts UltraHEPA technology that offers four filters to ensure the quality of air circulation in a large room of approximately 638 square feet. The filters can also eliminate 99.99% of harmful pathogens down to 0.003 microns.

On the other hand, Shark 3-in-1 Max is also a high-performance air purifier that can filter particles down to 0.1 microns. But what makes it unique from its competition is its heat and cooling fan that also sets up the atmosphere and makes the area as comfortable as possible.

For today, I will share my thoughts about the features of the two brands of air purifiers. Then, I will help you determine the best option that suits your needs and specific preferences.

Air Doctor 3000 Air Purifier

AIRDOCTOR AD3000 AD3500 Air Purifiers for Home And Large Rooms

The great advantage of the AirDoctor 3000 is its UltraHEPA technology. The name lives up to its name because it has four filters that can effectively eliminate microscopic particles while improving the quality of air circulation.

However, as beneficial as the Air Doctor 3000 appears, you should note the pros and cons before buying this air purifier. The factors that you have to consider include the following:

Pros

  • Excellent CADR and room coverage of 340 CFM and 638 per square foot, respectively
  • It has a four-filtration system. Thus, it gives you peace of mind whenever you are within the vicinity that the air you breathe is free of harmful particles.
  • Airdoctor 3000 has large motors that efficiently manage air circulation flow in a room.
  • The last stage of filtration releases ions that further purify the air you breathe.
  • Airdoctor 3000 also has an Energy Star certification. This means that although it has a large motor, it doesn’t consume high power, and you don’t have to worry about your monthly electricity bill spiking every time it operates.

Cons

  • All AirDoctor products are exclusively distributed in North America.

Shark 3-in-1 Max Air Purifier

Shark 3-in-1 Max Air Purifier

Shark 3-in-1 Max also functions as a tower fan that produces warm and cool air aside from purifying the air from the elements. The heater and air-conditioning are not a gimmick because they are fully functional.

But before you go to your local Home Depot and search for a Shark 3-in-1 air purifier, you must first note some of its pros and cons to ensure you are buying the brand.

Pros

  • It has a large coverage of about 1,000 square feet—the same as the coverage for the heater and cooler.
  • Aside from the air purifier function, you’ll also benefit from the brand’s heater and cooler mode, which provides an area of coverage of 1,000 square feet.
  • Despite the bulky design of the Shark 3-in-1 Max, it is surprisingly lightweight and suitable for small to medium spaces.
  • It offers a HEPA filter with three filters and can eliminate 99.98% of solid microscopic particles and harmful pathogens down to 0.1 microns.

Cons

  • Shark 3-in-1 has no sleep mode.
  • Although the air purifier is short in stature, it is still bulky, and storing them could be challenging.

Air Doctor 3000 vs. Shark 3-in-1 Max Designs

First and foremost, the design of the Airdoctor is minimalistic and easy to operate. However, the surface of the air purifier has a plastic vibe that makes it appear cheap.

Also, its semi-slanting sides are not pleasing to look at. It would be better if the manufacturers stick with a more straightforward design like a rectangular or square. Also, it’s huge and bulky, making storing them challenging.

On the other hand, the Shark 3-in-1 Max has a cylindrical design similar to a tower fan. And this is for a good reason because they have a heater and cooler fan mode. But unlike a regular tower fan, they are relatively small, and you may have to put them on a desk to benefit from such a function fully.

AirDoctor 3000 uses the UltraHEPA technology that cleanses the air around you through its four-filtration system.

  • Pre-Filter – the first stage of the filtration system involves filtering the air of toxic fumes, dust, VOC (volatile organic compounds), smoke, animal hair, gas, bacteria-causing molds, viruses, harmful pathogens, and other microscopic particles.
  • Activated Carbon – the second phase is when filtered particles are purified using activated carbon.
  • UltraHEPA Filter – the last step is eliminating particles down to 0.003 microns in size.
  • Ionizer – the Airdoctor 3000 also releases ions into the air to purify and improve the quality of air circulation in the room.

On the other hand, the Shark 3-in-1 Max air purifier uses HEPA technology that only offers three stages of filtration. This may be the case—it is powerful enough to keep your family safe from the harmful effects of airborne pathogens.

  • Pre-Filter – The first stages of Shark 3-in-1 Max’s filtration also involve the filtration of dust, unpleasant odors, toxic fumes, and other harmful particles.
  • Particle Filter – now, the HEPA technology filters these particles that capture other microscopic particles down to 0.1 microns in size.
  • Activated Carbon – the last step is the elimination process using activated carbon.

AirDoctor 3000 vs. Shark 3-in-1 Max Energy Consumption

Airdoctor 3000 vs. Shark 3-in-1 Max Energy Consumption

AirDoctor 3000 has certification from Star Energy, which means that it won’t significantly affect your monthly electric bill.

The air purifier uses 120 volts but only uses a surprising power consumption of under 11 watts in low fan mode and a maximum of 110 watts in high fan mode.

Despite the low power consumption, it doesn’t affect the performance of the Air Doctor 3000, in general.

On the other hand, there’s a huge discrepancy in power consumption when Shark 3-in-1 Max uses the maximum setting of approximately 1500 watts.

We don’t have an exact number of power consumption using various Shark functions, but it is clear that the max wattage is 1500 watts it consumes when working as a heater. So, when working as an air purifier, it uses less electricity.

AirDoctor 3000 vs. Shark 3-in-1 Max Noise Level

Airdoctor 3000 vs. Shark 3-in-1 Max Noise Level

Although Shark 3-in-1 Max advertises their product as ultra-quiet, there’s not much difference if you compare it with Air Doctor 3000.

Shark 3-in-1 Max produces a noise level of 39.3 dB when using low fan mode and 59 dB when using the high fan mode.

The Air Doctor 3000 has a noise level of 38 dB in low fan mode and 59 in high fan mode.

Air Doctor 3000 vs. Shark 3-in-1 Max Room Coverage And CADR Rating

Air Doctor 3000 has a CADR (clean air delivery rate) rating (smoke) of 340 CFM (cubic feet per minute), which can cover an approximate room size of 505 square feet 5 times every hour.

Shark 3-in-1 Max has no CADR rating because it is not AHAM tested. Shark advertises this purifier as a large space machine covering 1000 sq. ft. However, that’s only based on 1 air change per hour. AD3000 can clean 2525 sq. ft. 1x per hour.

So AD3000 is a clear winner here.

AirDoctor 3000 vs. Shark 3-in-1 Max Upkeep

The great advantage of AirDoctor 3000 is that it has a filter change indicator that gives you a good idea of when to replace the air purifier filters.

However, the average useful life of Airdoctor 3000 filters is about 6 to 12 months.

On the other hand, Shark 3-in-1 Max’s filter also has an average useful life of approximately 6 to 12 months.

However, you must vacuum the filters every two months to prolong their life.
